Local Enosburgh Resident Dies in Electric Scooter Accident on Vermont Rail Trail

In a somber incident on October 7, 2025, David St. Cyr, a 52-year-old Enosburgh resident, tragically lost his life following an electric scooter crash along the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail near White Road. Vermont State Police responded promptly to the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m., where they discovered St. Cyr unresponsive beside his scooter down an embankment off the trail .

The Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail, stretching over 25 miles through Franklin County, is a popular route for walkers, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts. The section where the accident occurred is known for its uneven gravel surfaces and gentle slopes, which can pose challenges for stability, especially at higher speeds. While the trail is generally considered safe, local residents have noted that certain areas can be tricky, particularly for riders unfamiliar with the terrain .

Initial investigations indicate that the crash was a single-vehicle incident, with no evidence of foul play or external involvement. The scooter, identified as a Cleytro Eclectic model, sustained minor damage, and authorities are examining factors such as visibility, weather conditions, and the scooter’s mechanical condition to determine the cause of the accident .

Community members have expressed deep sorrow over St. Cyr’s passing. Known for his friendly nature and love of the outdoors, he was a familiar face in Enosburgh. Tributes have begun to appear along the trail where the incident occurred, with flowers and handwritten notes honoring his memory. Local residents describe him as a kind-hearted individual who was always willing to lend a hand.

As the investigation continues, Vermont State Police have reminded trail users to exercise caution, wear helmets, and remain alert to changes in trail terrain, especially on multi-use routes like the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail.
