Sunday afternoon in Mesquite, Texas, a routine welfare check ended in heartbreak: 42-year-old Keisha Hilliard was found fatally shot inside her home. Since then, her grieving family says they’ve received no updates or transparency from the Mesquite Police Department—and they’re now crying out for justice.
According to local reports, officers were called to conduct a welfare check in the 2000 block of Avis Circle on October 12. Once inside, they found Keisha already deceased. Authorities have confirmed they are investigating the death as a homicide. The time of death was logged as about 4:44 p.m. local time.

Investigators have named a person of interest but so far, no arrest has been made. Law enforcement sources say the person was last seen driving a white SUV—possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon—and it may have been abandoned. The identity of the person is not yet confirmed.
Keisha’s family is furious. “This began as a welfare check—someone simply checking to make sure Keisha was okay. Instead, it became a murder scene,” they wrote in a public plea. “Days have gone by, and we’ve heard nothing from the Mesquite Police Department. There has been no update, no transparency, and no justice for Keisha. We are heartbroken and angry, but we will not be silent.”
They’re pushing community leaders, the press, and neighbors to help shine a spotlight on the case. They believe public pressure is essential to force the police to release more information, accelerate the investigation, and bring closure for Keisha.
If you know anything about the person of interest, or saw a white SUV abandoned near the area, please reach out. The family is asking that people contact Mesquite Police or email them at [email protected] with any information. This case may still be young, but Keisha’s loved ones aren’t giving up—they want answers, and they want justice.
