Kochville Township, Mich. — In the quiet hours before dawn on Wednesday, a sudden and tragic collision left two men dead and a community shaken. Around 12:53 a.m. on October 15, deputies from the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Lawndale Road and Kochville Road — only to discover a devastating scene.
Upon arrival, they found Joseph Granger, 49, of Saginaw, lying near the roadway, already deceased. A second man — aged 42 and from Alma — had been rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The sheriff’s office has not yet released the identity of the Alma man.

Investigators say Granger had been driving a silver GMC Yukon towing a single-axle trailer, and for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle came to a standstill on Lawndale Road just south of Kochville Road. It appears Granger may have been outside his vehicle at the time. Meanwhile, a red Dodge Ram driven by the Alma man was traveling south on Lawndale Road when it struck the trailer, rammed into the Yukon, and collided with Granger himself. The impact was severe; both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
The circumstances that led the Yukon to stop in the middle of the road remain unclear, and authorities emphasize that the investigation is ongoing. Deputies are examining factors such as possible mechanical failure, visibility, road conditions, or any involvement of impairment.
As the community reels from the loss, sheriff’s officials are offering their condolences to both families. They say the tragedy underscores how fragile life can be — and how easily the unexpected can turn a quiet night into heartbreak.
In the coming days, more details may emerge: autopsy results, toxicology reports, witness statements, and road surveillance may help piece together what truly unfolded in those fateful moments just past midnight. Until then, the names of the victims and the full story remain etched in sorrow and unanswered questions.
