In Loving Memory of Officer Deborah Overby (Retired)

Posted on May 6, 2025 by Usainsightreport

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Officer Deborah Overby (retired), a cherished member of the Rainbow City Police Department family. Deborah served with unwavering dedication and honor from November 30th, 2005, until her retirement on February 1st, 2017. During her time with the department, she took on multiple roles, most notably as a school resource officer—a position in which her warmth and commitment touched the lives of countless students, parents, and staff.

Deborah Overby passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and closest friends. Though her departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, her memory lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Throughout her career, Deborah exemplified the highest standards of service and integrity. Her presence in the community extended far beyond the uniform she wore. She was a protector, a mentor, a friend, and a beacon of kindness in the lives of many. Her approach to law enforcement was rooted in empathy and a genuine desire to serve. She practiced what we proudly call community-oriented policing, building trust, understanding, and lasting relationships wherever she was assigned.

Deborah’s time as a school resource officer was especially meaningful. She did more than just ensure the safety of the school grounds—she became a part of the educational family. Students looked up to her not just as an officer, but as a role model. Her ability to connect with youth, guide them with gentle firmness, and encourage them to make good choices left a lasting impact that extended well beyond the school walls.

Her colleagues remember her as a team player—reliable, compassionate, and always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her integrity was unwavering, and her laughter was contagious. Whether on patrol or in the office, Deborah brought a sense of calm, purpose, and professionalism to every situation she encountered.

As we grieve this immense loss, we extend our deepest condolences to Deborah’s family, friends, and all those who were blessed by her friendship and service. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We thank you for sharing her with us and for allowing her to serve a community that she loved so deeply.

Deborah Overby may have turned in her badge, but her legacy of compassion, courage, and community service lives on. Her memory will continue to inspire us all to lead with integrity and to serve with heart.

Thank you, Deborah, for everything. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.
