Posted on May 6, 2025 by Usainsightreport

Jonesville, MI – May 5, 2025

Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Jackson Post responded to a tragic single-vehicle crash on the evening of May 5 that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old Jonesville resident. The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 PM near the intersection of Genesee Road and Bunn Road in Jonesville, located in Hillsdale County.

According to preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation, the crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck operated by a 16-year-old male from Litchfield, Michigan. Two additional passengers were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, including another 16-year-old male from Homer and an 18-year-old male from Jonesville.

Troopers report that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Genesee Road when the driver lost control while navigating a curve. The vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a tree stump. The force of the impact was severe enough to eject both passengers from the vehicle.

Tragically, the 18-year-old male passenger who sustained critical injuries was transported by emergency personnel to Hillsdale Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver and the second passenger were treated for minor injuries on the scene and declined further medical attention.

Investigators have confirmed that none of the individuals in the vehicle were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash. While early indicators do not suggest alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident, the investigation remains active. MSP continues to examine all contributing factors, including vehicle speed and road conditions, as part of a comprehensive reconstruction effort.

“This crash serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how crucial it is to wear seat belts every time you get into a vehicle,” stated a spokesperson from the Jackson Post. “Seat belts save lives. They are the simplest and most effective means of protecting yourself in the event of a crash.”

The Michigan State Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the MSP Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. The Michigan State Police extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.

Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available. The Michigan State Police continue to prioritize road safety and education to help prevent similar tragedies on Michigan roads.
