Oswego, New York – The Oswego community is grappling with a tragic and violent incident that occurred early Thursday morning at a local Chick-fil-A, leaving one person dead and another severely injured. Tracey J. Land, a 52-year-old delivery driver, was found dead after being stabbed and beaten hours before a second victim arrived at the restaurant for work.

Authorities report that the suspect, Darryl Lee Jr., 19, allegedly broke into the restaurant before dawn. Investigators say he attacked Land inside, leaving the delivery driver fatally wounded. Law enforcement confirmed that Land was already deceased by the time the next person arrived at the location.

Around 5 a.m., a 20-year-old maintenance worker and his mother arrived at the restaurant. The suspect reportedly attacked the young man from behind with a knife, causing serious injuries. Despite his condition, the maintenance worker managed to fight back while his mother rushed to intervene.

Police arrived promptly at the scene after receiving emergency calls from witnesses. Officers found the suspect pinned to the ground, preventing further harm. Emergency personnel provided immediate care to the injured maintenance worker before transporting him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators later discovered Land’s body inside the restaurant. Authorities described the scene as chaotic and disturbing, highlighting the swift and dangerous nature of the events that unfolded before law enforcement could intervene.

The suspect, Darryl Lee Jr., now faces eleven felony charges, including murder, attempted murder, and assault. Police and prosecutors have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details about the motive and circumstances may be released as the case progresses.

Friends, family members, and coworkers of Land are expressing profound grief over the sudden loss. Many have shared memories of Land as a kind, dedicated individual who brought warmth and professionalism to his work and community. The delivery driver’s death has left an emotional void among those who knew him.

The maintenance worker and his mother are recovering from the physical and emotional trauma of the attack. Local support services and counseling have been offered to help them and others affected by the incident cope with the shock and stress caused by such a violent encounter.

Community leaders and local officials have called for calm and vigilance in the wake of the incident. They have emphasized the importance of community solidarity, reminding residents to report suspicious activity and to remain aware of safety precautions in public and work spaces.

As Oswego continues to process this tragic event, condolences and support are extended to Land’s family, friends, and all those affected. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of community, resilience, and care for those impacted by acts of violence.
