Fort Hall, Idaho — Manuel Rodriguez-Baltazar, 42, and Raul Navarrete, 44, both from Rupert, died Tuesday morning when their Ford F450 pickup collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 15. The violent crash caused the pickup to flip, and authorities confirmed that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:05 a.m. on October 21, 2025. Idaho State Police responded promptly to the scene, finding the pickup overturned and both men unresponsive. Emergency personnel confirmed their deaths shortly after arriving.

The semi-truck involved in the crash was driven by a 75-year-old man from McCammon. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time and was unharmed, not requiring hospital care. Officials commended his quick response in stopping the vehicle safely following the impact.

Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash. Police emphasized that it is too early to draw conclusions, as multiple factors, including road conditions, vehicle speed, and traffic patterns, are being considered.

Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner officially identified the victims. Authorities are extending condolences to their families and reminding the public of the importance of road safety, especially the use of seatbelts to reduce risk in serious collisions.

The area near Fort Hall was temporarily closed for several hours while first responders and investigators secured the scene, documented the incident, and collected evidence. Traffic delays impacted commuters during the morning rush, but authorities coordinated efforts to reopen the interstate safely.

Neighbors and community members in Rupert expressed shock and sadness at the sudden loss of the two men. Friends described them as active in the community and well-liked, highlighting the personal impact beyond the immediate tragedy of the crash.

Officials encouraged anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. Eyewitness accounts may provide critical insight into how the vehicles interacted and the events leading up to the crash. Law enforcement stressed that even small details can be valuable in reconstructing the incident.

The crash serves as a somber reminder of highway safety and the dangers posed by high-speed travel. Authorities continue to urge drivers to always wear seatbelts and remain alert to traffic conditions, particularly when operating large vehicles or traveling on busy interstates.
