Shreveport Community Heartbroken Over Tragic Passing of 20-Year-Old Devin Brown

Shreveport, Louisiana — Victim: Devin Brown

The community of Shreveport, Louisiana, is reeling from sorrow after the tragic passing of Devin Brown, a 20-year-old local resident whose life was cut short in a shooting on Tuesday night, November 4, 2025, in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. The devastating event occurred just after 10:00 p.m., near the intersection of West 70th Street and Linwood Avenue, an area that has seen its share of violence but is now united in grief and remembrance.

According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers responded to multiple calls reporting gunfire in the Cedar Grove area late Tuesday evening. Upon arrival, they found Devin Brown suffering from severe injuries consistent with gunfire. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by first responders and paramedics, Devin was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity and notified his family.

Detectives from the Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Unit have launched an active investigation into the incident. Early reports indicate that Devin may have been an unintended target, though authorities have not yet released a clear motive. The area was quickly roped off as investigators collected evidence, interviewed witnesses, and canvassed nearby homes for surveillance footage that could provide clues. As of Wednesday evening, no arrests had been made, but police continue to urge anyone with information to contact Caddo Crime Stoppers.

Devin’s sudden passing has deeply shaken the Cedar Grove neighborhood and the wider Shreveport community. Family, friends, and neighbors have described him as a bright, respectful, and ambitious young man who brought light and positivity wherever he went. Devin was a graduate of Fair Park High School and had recently begun working at a local auto repair shop while saving money to attend trade school to become a certified mechanic.

His mother, Angela Brown, shared tearfully, “Devin had big dreams. He wanted to build something meaningful with his life — to help people and take care of his family. He was my baby, and his heart was pure. I can’t believe he’s gone.”

Friends remember Devin as someone who could make anyone laugh, even in the toughest moments. He was passionate about cars, music, and spending time with his younger cousins, whom he adored. A lifelong resident of Shreveport, Devin was known for his respect toward others, his loyalty, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

“Devin was like a little brother to me,” said his close friend Marcus Hill. “He was the kind of guy who would give you his last dollar if you needed it. He didn’t deserve this. None of us can believe he’s really gone.”

A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night at the site of the shooting, drawing dozens of friends, family, and community members. The crowd lit candles, prayed together, and released balloons into the night sky in Devin’s memory. Many wore T-shirts bearing his picture and the words “Forever 20” and “Long Live Devin.” The vigil was filled with tears, music, and stories celebrating his life and the joy he brought to those around him.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux released a statement addressing the ongoing violence in the city, saying,

“The loss of young lives like Devin Brown’s is unacceptable and heartbreaking. Our city mourns with his family, and we must continue to come together to find solutions to prevent these senseless tragedies. Devin’s life mattered — and his memory must inspire change.”

Community activists have echoed this sentiment, calling for greater investment in youth programs, conflict resolution initiatives, and neighborhood safety measures. Devin’s family has also expressed a desire to start a nonprofit foundation in his honor, focused on mentoring young men and steering them toward positive paths in life — a cause they say Devin himself would have supported wholeheartedly.

Funeral arrangements for Devin Brown are currently being planned, with services expected to take place later this week at a local church. Family members have created a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses and to help fund the memorial foundation being established in his name.

As Shreveport continues to grapple with the weight of another young life lost, residents are reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of unity. Those who knew Devin will forever remember his kindness, laughter, and unwavering determination to do good.

Though his life was cut short far too soon, Devin Brown’s spirit will live on through the love he gave, the joy he spread, and the lasting impact he left on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
