It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Longview Independent School District shares the heartbreaking news of the passing of Colleen Cleaver, a cherished 11th-grade student at Longview High School. Colleen passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the tender age of 17.
Colleen was more than just a student—she was a vibrant and inspiring young woman whose presence touched the lives of everyone around her. Known for her bright smile, her kindness, and her unwavering positivity, Colleen brought joy and warmth into classrooms, hallways, and friendships. She was a dedicated learner, a loyal friend, and a young woman with dreams that reached far beyond the walls of our school. Her passing is a tremendous loss to her family, friends, teachers, and the entire Longview High School community.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James Wilcox, issued the following statement on behalf of Longview ISD:
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Colleen Cleaver, a student at Longview High School. On behalf of Longview ISD, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Colleen’s family, friends, and the educators who supported her. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with all who knew and loved Colleen.”
In light of this tragic loss, Longview ISD has activated its crisis response team to provide counseling and support services for students, faculty, and staff. Grief counselors and support personnel are available at Longview High School and will continue to be accessible in the days and weeks ahead to help our school community cope with this painful loss.
We understand that the news of Colleen’s passing may be deeply upsetting and difficult to process. We encourage students, parents, and staff to take advantage of the resources available and to lean on one another for support. Our priority is to create a safe and compassionate space where students and staff can grieve, remember, and begin to heal.
Out of respect for the privacy of Colleen’s family during this incredibly difficult time, Longview ISD will not be releasing additional information about the circumstances surrounding her passing. As funeral or memorial arrangements are made available, and only with the family’s consent, we will share those details with the school community.
The loss of a young life is always devastating, and Colleen’s absence will be felt deeply across our district. We honor her memory by remembering the joy she brought to our school and the many lives she touched during her time with us. Her spirit and legacy will not be forgotten.
To the family and friends of Colleen Cleaver: we extend our deepest condolences and join you in mourning this unimaginable loss. May you find comfort in the love and support of those around you and in the cherished memories you hold dear.
