RPD: Ogden Man Identified as Orchard Street Shooting Victim

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police Department has identified the man found dead on Orchard Street on the evening of May 8. Authorities responded promptly after reports of an injured person and a possible assault in the area.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Thursday night, officers arrived at the scene located on the north side of a building near a wooded area on Orchard Street. There, they discovered a man in his 30s suffering from a critical injury. Despite emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Richard Gollwitzer, a resident of Ogden, New York. Preliminary investigations revealed that Gollwitzer died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Rochester Police’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. At this time, police have not released information on any suspects or motives, urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.

This incident marks a serious concern for the local community, underscoring the ongoing challenges of gun violence and public safety in Rochester. Police officials have emphasized their commitment to bringing justice for Richard Gollwitzer and are appealing to residents to provide any leads that could help solve this homicide.
