Verona Man Arrested for Malicious Wounding After Armed Robbery Leaves Victim with Severe Facial Injuries

Posted on May 23, 2025 by Usainsightreport

A Verona man has been arrested on charges of malicious wounding following a violent robbery that left another man with serious facial and head injuries. Authorities allege that 35-year-old Derrick Lee Barbour was armed with a handgun when he assaulted the victim.

The incident reportedly occurred in Verona, Virginia, where Barbour is accused of attacking another man during a robbery. The victim sustained significant injuries to his face and head as a result of the assault. Barbour has been charged with malicious wounding, a serious felony offense in Virginia that carries severe penalties.

This is not Barbour’s first encounter with law enforcement. In 2011, he was arrested in Waynesboro, Virginia, after escaping custody in Staunton earlier that year. At that time, he faced charges including escape and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was apprehended without incident and was found in possession of a .22-caliber pistol.

The recent charges against Barbour underscore the seriousness of the allegations and the potential consequences he faces if convicted. Malicious wounding in Virginia is classified as a Class 3 felony, which can result in a prison sentence of 5 to 20 years and a fine of up to $100,000. The use of a firearm during the commission of a felony can lead to additional charges and penalties.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and further details may emerge as the case progresses. Barbour is currently being held in custody pending trial.
