Clay County Juvenile Arrested for Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds

Posted on May 23, 2025 by Usainsightreport

CLAY COUNTY, FL – May 23, 2025 – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has confirmed the arrest of a 10-year-old student from Argyle Elementary School following a troubling incident that unfolded on campus earlier today. The child, a 3rd grade male student, was found to be in possession of an operational electric stun gun, prompting a swift response from school officials and law enforcement.

The incident came to light after a fellow student reported to school staff that the suspect may be carrying a weapon. Acting promptly, the staff alerted authorities and implemented safety protocols to ensure the safety of all students and personnel on school grounds. Upon investigation, CCSO deputies recovered the electric stun gun from the student’s possession.

Following the discovery, CCSO initiated a criminal investigation which included detailed interviews with the reporting student, the suspect, and several school staff members. The recovered weapon was seized and documented as evidence. Officials also conducted a thorough school threat assessment to determine whether there was any immediate or future risk posed to others on campus.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and no students or staff were harmed as a result of the incident.

The 10-year-old has since been charged under Florida State Statute 790.115(2)(a), which classifies the possession of a weapon on school property as a third-degree felony. The statute clearly prohibits individuals from possessing or discharging weapons—including firearms, electric weapons or devices, and other dangerous objects—on school property or at school-sponsored events, unless specifically authorized for educational or safety-related purposes.

Following the arrest, the student was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice – Duval Detention Center, where he will be held pending further legal proceedings.

Statement from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office:

“The safety of our children is our top priority. We commend the student who came forward with this information and the swift actions taken by the staff at Argyle Elementary. This incident serves as a strong reminder of the importance of school vigilance and the responsibility shared by the entire community in keeping our campuses safe.”

CCSO emphasized the importance of ongoing education about the consequences of weapon possession, even among young students. The department is urging parents and guardians to speak openly with their children about the dangers of weapons and the serious legal ramifications that can follow, even at a young age.

School Response and Parent Notification

Argyle Elementary School has issued a notice to all parents and guardians reassuring them of the steps taken to ensure student safety. The school emphasized that it remains committed to fostering a secure and nurturing learning environment. Counseling services have been made available for any students who may feel unsettled by the day’s events.

In compliance with district policy and in cooperation with law enforcement, the student is expected to face both criminal charges and disciplinary actions through the school system, which may include suspension or expulsion based on the findings of the threat assessment and school board review.

Conclusion

While the situation was alarming, the effective response by the student who reported the weapon, along with school staff and law enforcement, ensured that no harm came to any individuals involved. Clay County officials continue to take a strong stance on school safety and will investigate all similar reports with the utmost seriousness.

This case underscores the critical role of communication, awareness, and timely action in preventing potential tragedies on school campuses. Anyone with concerns about student safety is encouraged to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office or the School Safety Office directly.
