Philadelphia Memorial Day Mass Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Nine Injured

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A tragic mass shooting occurred late Monday night in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to at least nine others, including three teenagers aged 15, 16, and 17.

The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. near Lemon Hill Drive and Poplar Drive during a large cookout and car meet-up event.  Witnesses reported a drive-by shooting, with gunfire causing chaos as people fled the scene. In the aftermath, one individual was also struck by a vehicle amid the confusion.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel confirmed the fatalities and injuries, noting that all injured victims are reported to be in stable condition.  The identities of the deceased have not yet been released. Police are actively searching for multiple suspects, although no weapons have been recovered.

The shooting adds to a series of violent events over Memorial Day weekend across the United States, highlighting the ongoing issue of gun violence in the country.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
