In Loving Memory of Rodger Bednar

Thornton, Illinois

Veteran • Neighbor • Friend

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Rodger Bednar, a longtime resident of Thornton, Illinois, who departed this life just hours ago. Rodger was not only a familiar face in the neighborhood—he was a pillar of quiet strength, compassion, and resilience.

For 25 years, Rodger called his unit in Thornton home. In that time, he became more than just a neighbor to those around him—he was family. His dedication to community, his enduring kindness, and the warmth he shared with those in his life leave behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.

A Veteran Remembered

Rodger proudly served his country, and the values he upheld in service—duty, perseverance, and honor—carried through into the rest of his life. Though he didn’t seek attention or accolades, Rodger lived his life with quiet dignity, reflective of the sacrifices and strength often borne by veterans.

He will be laid to rest with the respect he so deeply deserves in a VA cemetery, where his memory will be enshrined among those who gave of themselves for the good of others.

A Bond Beyond Friendship

In his later years, Rodger was lovingly cared for by his neighbor and dear friend Letitia Kimmons, who stepped in to help during his time of need. Their relationship was one of mutual respect, kindness, and shared humanity. Letitia’s devotion to Rodger stands as a testament to the power of community and compassion. Her support brought dignity and comfort to Rodger’s final chapter, for which all who knew him are deeply grateful.

“Rodger was more than just a neighbor to me,” Letitia shared. “He was family. He had a gentle way about him, and his presence gave peace to those around him.”

A Life That Touched Many

Though he may not have sought the spotlight, Rodger’s generous nature and courageous heart were felt deeply by those who knew him. His quiet acts of kindness, his strength in the face of life’s challenges, and his unwavering loyalty to those he cared for have left a lasting impression on the Thornton community.

As we say goodbye to Rodger Bednar, we also celebrate a life well-lived—one marked by resilience, love, and an enduring connection to those around him.

Final Salute

Rodger, may your soul rest in peace and your memory live on in the hearts of those who had the honor to know you. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
