Tragic Collision at Hoosick Intersection Claims One Life, Leaves Two Injured

HOOSICK, N.Y. — A devastating two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 7 and State Route 22 in Hoosick, New York, has claimed the life of one woman and left two others injured. The collision, which occurred on the morning of June 5, 2025, has shaken the surrounding communities of Rensselaer County and western Massachusetts.

Victims Identified

The victim who tragically lost her life has been identified as 84-year-old Claire Boyer of Williamstown, Massachusetts. Boyer was a passenger in a red 2010 Honda sedan driven by 82-year-old Elizabeth Cain of North Adams. The other vehicle involved was a blue 2010 Mazda sedan operated by 25-year-old Susan Alexis Joe of Petersburgh, New York.

Details of the Incident

According to preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation, Cain was traveling northbound on State Route 22 and was attempting to make a left turn to head westbound onto State Route 7. During that maneuver, her vehicle entered the path of the eastbound Mazda driven by Joe, resulting in the high-impact collision.

Emergency medical teams from multiple agencies quickly responded to the scene. Despite rapid response and life-saving efforts administered on-site, Claire Boyer was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cain had to be extricated by first responders due to the damage sustained in the collision and was transported to Albany Medical Center with a suspected leg injury. Joe was found outside her vehicle with apparent injuries to her leg and hip and was also transported to Albany Medical Center.

Community Response and Ongoing Investigation

The intersection where the accident occurred has been the site of multiple previous collisions, according to local residents. Some have raised concerns about visibility and the need for additional signage or traffic control measures. In light of this latest tragedy, renewed calls for safety reviews and improvements may soon follow.

Local officials have extended their condolences to the family of Claire Boyer and offered support to those affected by the accident. Grief counselors and support services have been made available, particularly for those in the communities of Williamstown and North Adams, where Boyer was well-known and respected.

New York State Police are continuing to investigate the crash, including examining potential factors such as speed, visibility, and any possible mechanical failure. No charges have been filed at this time, and authorities have not indicated whether any citations are forthcoming.

Remembering Claire Boyer

Claire Boyer was remembered by those who knew her as a loving and spirited individual, active in her community and known for her kindness. Her loss has left her family, friends, and community in mourning.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution at intersections, especially in rural areas where traffic volumes can vary and line-of-sight may be limited.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and as the injured victims receive medical evaluations. The community now reflects on a deeply saddening loss and hopes for the recovery of those injured in this tragic incident.
