ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) — Authorities are investigating a violent shooting incident that left three people injured early Sunday morning, June 8, along Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish. The incident unfolded in the quiet hours around 2 a.m. in the Prairieville area and has sparked a wide-reaching investigation by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to initial reports, deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire on I-10 Westbound. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered a vehicle riddled with bullet holes, and three occupants inside had suffered gunshot wounds. Officials said that the vehicle had been traveling west on I-10 when it was targeted by another vehicle from which gunfire erupted.

The three victims, whose identities have not yet been released, sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two of them were reported to be in critical condition as of Sunday morning, raising concerns about the severity of the attack. The third victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities confirmed.

Emergency medical crews quickly arrived and transported all three individuals to a local hospital for treatment. No updates on their conditions have been provided at this time.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Investigators are working diligently to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting. Law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed whether this was a targeted attack or a random act of violence. Detectives are currently reviewing traffic camera footage, speaking with witnesses, and analyzing forensic evidence recovered from the scene.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone who was traveling along I-10 West in the Prairieville area around 2 a.m. Sunday to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that might assist in identifying the suspect or suspects involved. This incident marks yet another case of gun violence on Louisiana roadways, raising alarms about driver safety and public security during nighttime travel. Authorities are reminding residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior immediately.

As the investigation continues, officials are asking the public for patience and cooperation while they work to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice. More updates are expected to follow as new details emerge.
