STATESVILLE, N.C. — Community in Mourning After Tragic Shooting Claims the Life of 25-Year-Old D’Angelo Malindsay Barker

STATESVILLE, N.C. — The early morning calm of Saturday, June 14, 2025, was shattered by gunfire in Statesville, North Carolina, as a tragic act of violence claimed the life of 25-year-old D’Angelo Malindsay Barker. The incident unfolded around 5:35 a.m. in the 100 block of East Allison Street, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood and leaving family, friends, and community members in grief and disbelief.

According to the Statesville Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired and discovered Barker suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but despite their best efforts, Barker succumbed to his injuries.

D’Angelo Barker was more than just another name in a police report. Known for his charisma, warm smile, and generous heart, he was a beloved son, brother, friend, and role model to many. He was remembered as someone who carried a light within him—someone who could lift the mood in any room and who deeply valued loyalty and family. Friends say he had recently expressed hopes of building a brighter future for himself and those around him.

As word of his passing spread, a growing crowd gathered near the scene, lighting candles and sharing stories of how Barker had impacted their lives. Local pastors and community advocates spoke of the urgency to address the ongoing cycle of violence that continues to impact young lives in Statesville and beyond.

“This is more than just another statistic. We lost a young man with dreams, with love in his heart, and with potential,” one local resident said during a vigil held in Barker’s honor on Saturday evening. “D’Angelo deserved better.”

Investigators are working diligently to piece together the moments leading up to the shooting. As of Sunday, police had not released any information regarding suspects or potential motives. Authorities have asked for the public’s help, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

While the investigation remains ongoing, Barker’s family has begun making arrangements for a memorial service that will honor his life and the impact he had on those who knew him. A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to help with funeral expenses, with donations pouring in from community members moved by the tragedy.

As Statesville grapples with the pain of yet another life cut short, the memory of D’Angelo Malindsay Barker will live on—in laughter shared, in hugs remembered, and in the love of a family and community that now mourns his absence. His death is a heartbreaking reminder of the urgency to bring peace and healing to streets that have known too much sorrow.
