NASHVILLE, TN – June 15, 2025 — Tragedy Strikes 31st Avenue North as Beloved Teacher and Husband Die in Murder-Suicide

NASHVILLE, TN – A wave of grief and shock has swept across the Nashville community following a heartbreaking murder-suicide that claimed the lives of two individuals early Sunday morning. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers responded to a distressing scene at a condominium complex located on 31st Avenue North, where they discovered the bodies of Steven Pierce, age 46, and Amina Anna Darbashi Pierce, age 30.

Authorities confirmed that the incident was a murder-suicide, with evidence indicating that Steven Pierce fatally shot his wife, Amina, before turning the weapon on himself. The motive behind the tragedy remains under investigation, but police have stated there were no prior emergency calls or publicly known history of domestic violence at the residence.

The devastating news has sent ripples through the local community, especially at Whitson Elementary School, where Amina Pierce was a beloved teacher known for her compassion, dedication, and radiant spirit. She was an educator who poured her heart into her students and uplifted those around her with every word of encouragement, every lesson carefully prepared, and every moment she spent fostering the growth of young minds. Colleagues remember her as a beacon of positivity — someone who made even the most difficult days brighter with her gentle smile and calming presence.

“She was the heart of our school,” said one fellow teacher through tears. “The children adored her, and so did we. She had this incredible way of making everyone feel seen and valued.”

Amina, originally from a vibrant Iranian-American family, was widely admired not only for her intellect and professionalism, but also for her generosity and activism. In addition to her work in the classroom, she volunteered regularly at community centers and mentored at-risk youth. Friends describe her as “gentle, brilliant, and endlessly giving.”

The circumstances surrounding her death have left many asking painful questions — how such violence could touch the life of someone so full of promise, and how such darkness could unfold so suddenly behind closed doors.

Steven Pierce, her husband, was known to some in the neighborhood but had kept a relatively low profile in recent years. Though investigators continue to examine the events leading up to the tragedy, authorities have asked for privacy and patience as the community processes its grief.

Neighbors and friends gathered near the condominium complex Sunday evening for an impromptu candlelight vigil in memory of Amina. Soft sobs and whispered prayers filled the warm summer air as dozens stood shoulder to shoulder, united in heartbreak. Some brought handwritten notes and flowers, while others simply stood in silence — an aching tribute to a life lost too soon.

In the aftermath, many in Nashville are calling for greater awareness and action surrounding domestic violence and mental health. Local organizations are renewing efforts to provide resources, support, and intervention strategies that can help prevent such tragedies in the future.

The Metro Nashville School District released a statement saying, in part:

“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our cherished educators, Amina Pierce. Her dedication to her students, her colleagues, and this community will never be forgotten. We will be offering counseling and support to students and staff in the coming days.”

As the city mourns, the memory of Amina Anna Darbashi Pierce will endure — not as a victim, but as a symbol of kindness, resilience, and hope. She leaves behind a legacy of lives touched and minds inspired, and a community that will forever hold her in its heart.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been publicly announced. Grief counselors and local support services are being made available to students, coworkers, and community members impacted by this unfathomable loss.

May Amina and Steven rest in peace, and may those left behind find strength, healing, and the courage to carry forward her light.
