Baltimore County Gym Teacher Arrested on Assault Charges for Inappropriate Conduct with Students at Northwest Academy

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A disturbing case has emerged out of Baltimore County as authorities confirm the arrest of a 28-year-old gym teacher accused of inappropriately touching students at a local middle school. The Baltimore County Police Department (BCPD) announced that Jordan Adams, a physical education instructor at Northwest Academy of Health Sciences, has been taken into custody following an investigation by the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit.

According to the BCPD, the arrest of Adams is the result of multiple reports made to law enforcement alleging that he had inappropriately touched several students while serving in his role as a teacher. These troubling allegations prompted a swift and thorough investigation by detectives with specialized training in child abuse and sexual misconduct cases.

Adams has been charged with several counts of Second-Degree Assault, a charge under Maryland law which can be applied in cases where physical contact is considered harmful or offensive and is done without consent. In this case, the charges stem from allegations involving minors, which significantly heightens the concern and seriousness of the situation.

Officials say that Adams is currently being held without bond, reflecting the severity of the accusations and the potential risk he may pose to the community or to potential witnesses. He remains incarcerated as the judicial process unfolds, and a court appearance is expected in the coming days.

Northwest Academy, located in the Pikesville area, serves middle school students and is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) system. Parents and guardians of students at the school were notified of the situation as law enforcement worked closely with school officials to ensure the safety and support of students who may have been affected.

Baltimore County Public Schools has not released a detailed public statement as of yet, but sources close to the administration confirmed that Adams has been removed from his position and is not permitted to return to the school pending the outcome of the investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with further information about Adams or additional incidents to come forward. “This investigation is active and ongoing,” a BCPD spokesperson stated. “We are encouraging any students, parents, or staff members who may have witnessed concerning behavior or have relevant information to contact the Crimes Against Children Unit.”

The public is asked to call BCPD at 410-887-7720 if they have information that could assist in the investigation.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the school community and beyond, sparking renewed calls for comprehensive safeguards to protect students and ensure proper screening, monitoring, and accountability for individuals placed in positions of trust within school systems.

In the wake of the arrest, several parents have expressed outrage and concern, noting the need for transparency and reassurance that their children are safe in school environments. “It’s horrifying to think something like this could happen in a place where kids are supposed to feel protected,” one parent said. “We send our children to school to learn, not to be violated.”

The case has reignited discussions around mandatory reporting laws, training for educators on professional boundaries, and the importance of creating safe avenues for students to report inappropriate behavior. Mental health counselors and crisis support teams have reportedly been made available to students at Northwest Academy who may be struggling with the emotional impact of the news.

As the legal process moves forward, Jordan Adams will be afforded due process under the law. However, Baltimore County officials are emphasizing that the protection and well-being of children remain the highest priority. More information is expected to be released as investigators continue to gather evidence and additional witness testimony.

This arrest serves as a stark reminder of the vital importance of vigilance, early reporting, and robust oversight within educational institutions to prevent abuse and protect the most vulnerable members of our communities.
