RIVERTON, UTAH — Community Devastated by Death of 18-Year-Old Haven Alexander McBride in Tragic Incident at Family Home

RIVERTON, UT — A somber and unsettling quiet has settled over the typically peaceful streets of Riverton, a suburb in southern Salt Lake County, following the heartbreaking death of 18-year-old Haven Alexander McBride. A beloved son, brother, and friend, Haven’s life was tragically cut short in an incident that unfolded inside the family’s home, leaving his loved ones and neighbors stunned and searching for answers.

The tragedy occurred on Monday evening, June 16, 2025, in a well-kept neighborhood where families are closely connected and community events are a routine part of life. According to early reports from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call from the McBride residence just after 7:00 p.m., where they found Haven unresponsive with what appeared to be traumatic injuries. Despite life-saving efforts from emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that the circumstances surrounding Haven’s death are under active investigation, and while no arrests have been made at this time, law enforcement officials have not ruled out foul play. The cause and manner of death are currently being examined by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, and the results of that autopsy are expected in the coming days.

The McBride family, known in Riverton for their community involvement and kindness, has been left shattered by the loss. In a brief statement released through a family spokesperson, they shared their anguish:

“Haven was the heart of our home — joyful, intelligent, and filled with compassion for everyone he met. His loss is indescribable. We are asking for privacy as we grieve and wait for answers.”

Haven Alexander McBride, a recent graduate of Riverton High School, was preparing to begin the next chapter of his life. He had been accepted into the engineering program at the University of Utah and had dreams of designing renewable energy systems to help combat climate change. Known among peers for his brilliant mind and boundless curiosity, Haven was also a gifted musician who often played piano at local church events and community gatherings.

“Haven lit up every room he walked into,” said Kylie Thomason, one of his former teachers. “He had a way of making people feel seen and valued. This is a devastating loss not just for his family, but for all of us who knew and loved him.”

Neighbors and friends have set up a growing memorial outside the McBride home, with candles, flowers, photos, and handwritten notes expressing sorrow and support. The heartbreak has rippled across Riverton, especially among the local youth who saw Haven not just as a friend, but as a source of strength and optimism.

The Riverton Police Department and the Unified Police Department have both committed resources to the case, and officials say they are working diligently to gather facts, conduct interviews, and determine exactly what occurred in those fateful moments inside the home. Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have relevant information to come forward by calling (801) 743-7000 or submitting tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers of Utah.

Meanwhile, the Jordan School District, which includes Riverton High, has made grief counselors and support staff available to students, faculty, and families impacted by the tragedy. Superintendent Anthony Godfrey issued a statement expressing condolences and emphasizing the importance of unity during such difficult times.

“Our hearts are heavy with the loss of one of our own. Haven McBride was a bright young man with a future full of promise. We mourn alongside his family and friends and will continue to provide resources for our school communities to cope with this devastating news.”

A candlelight vigil is being planned for the evening of Friday, June 20, at Riverton City Park, where classmates, family, and community members will gather to honor Haven’s memory and share stories of his remarkable life. The event is expected to draw hundreds, all seeking solace and connection in the wake of unimaginable loss.

As Riverton mourns, one message remains clear: Haven’s light, though extinguished too soon, continues to shine in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy will not be forgotten, and the call for truth, justice, and healing now echoes across a community forever changed.
