LOUISVILLE, MISSISSIPPI — Two Arrested in Connection with Drive-By Shooting That Killed 24-Year-Old Quincy Markez Haynes

LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) — The City of Louisville is mourning a heartbreaking loss after a fatal drive-by shooting on Tuesday evening claimed the life of 24-year-old Quincy Markez Haynes, a beloved young man remembered for his warmth, ambition, and dedication to family. In a swift law enforcement response, two suspects have now been arrested in connection with the killing.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, officers from the Louisville Police Department, working alongside the Winston County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Ja’Lavian Hunt, 18, and Terence Randall Griffin Jr., 30 — both residents of Louisville. The two were taken into custody less than 24 hours after the shooting.

Hunt is facing charges of one count of murder and three counts of aggravated assault, while Griffin remains in custody as investigators finalize charges related to his alleged role in the incident.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday, June 17, in a residential neighborhood, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community. Witnesses reported multiple gunshots fired from a moving vehicle in what officials have described as a targeted and deliberate act of violence. Haynes was fatally struck during the hail of bullets, while three others narrowly survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and police have not yet released further details. However, they emphasized the importance of community cooperation in bringing swift justice.

“We’re thankful for the teamwork and dedication that led to these arrests,” said Louisville Police Chief Sean Holdiness. “But we remain deeply saddened by the senseless loss of life. Quincy Haynes was just 24 years old — a young man whose life should not have ended this way.”

The news of Quincy’s death has left the city grieving. Friends and family describe him as devoted, respectful, and full of potential. He had been working toward a certification in welding and was planning to move out of state to pursue career opportunities. At home, he was a pillar of support for his younger siblings and a source of strength for his mother, who called him “her rock.”

“Quincy was a brother, a friend, a son, and someone who brought light into people’s lives,” said cousin and family spokesperson Marcus Haynes. “He didn’t deserve this. Our family is shattered.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover funeral expenses and support the grieving Haynes family. Community members have rallied in solidarity, with many offering donations, meals, and words of comfort.

Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with additional information to come forward by contacting the Louisville Police Department or Winston County Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips can be submitted online or by phone.

Community leaders, including local pastors and youth advocates, are also calling for calm and unity amid rising tension. A candlelight vigil to honor Quincy’s life is scheduled for Saturday evening at Louisville City Park. Organizers say the event will offer a space for mourning, healing, and hope.

“We can’t let this violence define us,” said Reverend Elijah Morgan of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. “We must come together as a community — not just to grieve, but to demand better for our young people. Quincy’s life mattered.”

As the suspects await their day in court, the community of Louisville remains in mourning — grappling with the unbearable loss of a young man who had so much more to give.

Quincy Markez Haynes will be remembered not just as a victim of violence, but as a son, brother, friend, and dreamer whose light was extinguished far too soon. His absence is deeply felt, and his memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Let me know if you’d like to include a quote from a friend, details from the vigil, or updates as the legal proceedings move forward.
