In Loving Memory of Ferg Pirie: A True Pillar of Our Club
It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt respect that we announce the passing of Ferg Pirie—a cherished life member, respected former Club President (1970–1977), long-time sports trainer, and an irreplaceable figure in the life and legacy of our club.
Ferg was more than just a clubman. He was a cornerstone, a guiding force, and a tireless supporter of everything this club stands for. Over the course of many decades, Ferg gave his heart, his time, and his unwavering commitment to the club he loved so dearly. His passing marks the end of an era, but his spirit will live on in every corner of the grounds, every whistle blown, every game played, and every person who walks through our doors with passion in their heart.
As Club President from 1970 to 1977, Ferg led during a formative and significant period in our history. He was instrumental in helping shape the club into the strong, united, and community-driven institution it is today. His leadership style was marked by humility, decisiveness, and an unshakeable belief in the power of teamwork and loyalty. Those who served alongside him remember not just his strategic thinking and drive, but his warmth, good humour, and tireless enthusiasm.
After his presidency, Ferg remained a constant presence—serving for many years as a dedicated sports trainer, nurturing athletes, guiding young players through injury and recovery, and providing not only physical support but emotional encouragement during times of hardship and doubt. His hands helped mend many, and his wisdom helped shape countless sporting journeys.
For the players, Ferg was a steady hand on the shoulder, a voice of reason in tense moments, and a quiet motivator who never sought the spotlight, but always stood ready in the wings. For committee members, coaches, and volunteers, he was a wellspring of knowledge, generosity, and good humour. And for supporters, he was a friendly, familiar face—always willing to lend a hand, share a story, or offer a warm greeting on a cold day.
What made Ferg’s contribution so special wasn’t just the number of years he served, but the spirit in which he served. He gave without asking, supported without question, and loved this club like it was family. And in many ways, it was. The club was Ferg’s second home, and his presence enriched it beyond measure.
His legacy is not measured in titles, wins, or statistics—but in the relationships he built, the respect he earned, and the values he embodied: dedication, humility, kindness, and service.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Pirie family, who shared Ferg with us for so many years. Our hearts are with you as we mourn the loss of this exceptional man. May you find comfort in knowing how dearly he was loved and how profoundly he impacted the lives of so many.
As we remember Ferg, we also honour him. He may no longer stand beside us on the sidelines, but his spirit remains part of this club’s very fabric—woven into our history, carried forward by those he inspired.
Rest in peace, Ferg.
You gave us everything. We will miss you always.
