ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — A homicide investigation is underway in St. Croix following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 29-year-old man in the Grove Place area on Saturday evening. The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) has confirmed the victim as Dasha Graham, who was identified at the scene by a family member.
According to VIPD, the incident began around 6:15 p.m. on June 21, 2025, when the 911 Emergency Call Center was alerted by ShotSpotter technology—an acoustic gunfire detection system—registering multiple gunshots near Cozy Corner, a local area within Grove Place. Within minutes of the alert, a concerned caller reached out to 911 reporting that a man might have been injured in the barrage of gunfire.
First responders and police officers were dispatched immediately and arrived to find Graham suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to render aid at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The area was quickly cordoned off as crime scene technicians, homicide detectives, and investigators from the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) began processing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
A Community in Shock
The killing has sent waves of sorrow through the Grove Place community, a once quiet area that has seen a troubling rise in gun violence in recent months. Residents expressed grief and concern as they gathered near the taped-off area Saturday night, many of them stunned by the sudden loss of a young life.
“I heard the shots, but I never imagined it was someone I knew,” said one nearby resident. “Dasha was someone we all saw growing up here. It’s heartbreaking.”
