DEPUTIES INVESTIGATING FATAL CRASH IN COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP — 10-MONTH-OLD INFANT KILLED IN TRAGIC VEHICLE FIRE

COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP, IN – June 27, 2025 — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded Friday afternoon in LaPorte County, as deputies responded to a devastating single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 10-month-old child.

At approximately 1:09 PM, emergency dispatchers received a call reporting a motor vehicle fire in the 11500 west block of County Road 400 North. Witnesses on scene reported the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, and that a child was still inside.

Deputies with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office arrived swiftly at the scene but were met with intense fire and heat, rendering it impossible to reach the infant trapped inside. Firefighters from local fire departments responded within minutes and worked to suppress the blaze. Tragically, by the time the flames were extinguished, it was too late — the 10-month-old child was found deceased inside the vehicle.

In a solemn response to the tragedy, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division were called to the scene and have since launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The cause of the crash, as well as the events leading up to the fire, are being meticulously examined.

As of this release, the identities of those involved are being withheld, pending further investigation and notifications to the family. Authorities have stated this decision is out of respect for those impacted and in accordance with investigative protocol.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information that might assist detectives to come forward. If you witnessed the crash, or have relevant details, please contact Chief of Detectives, Captain Andy Hynek, at 📧 [email protected].
