Scott County Sheriff’s Office Releases Findings in Fatal Shooting of John Fisher
Scott County, Missouri – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has released new details following a fatal shooting that occurred late Thursday night, June 26, 2025, on County Highway 244, resulting in the death of 31-year-old John Fisher, of East Prairie, Missouri.
At approximately 11:27 p.m., a 911 call was first received by the Scott City Police Department and subsequently transferred to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies, along with a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, responded to the residence on County Highway 244.
Upon arrival, officers discovered John Fisher deceased at the front entrance of the home. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Details of the Confrontation
The investigation revealed that John Fisher had gone to the home of Austin Glastetter, where his wife was visiting. Upon arrival, Fisher reportedly began aggressively pounding on the front door while wearing brass knuckles, causing structural damage and shattering the door’s glass panel in an attempt to gain entry.
According to the sheriff’s report, Austin Glastetter issued several warnings for Fisher to leave the property and informed him that he was armed. Fisher continued to force entry and reportedly yelled, “You’ll have to kill me.”
Fearing for his safety and for the safety of others in the home, Mr. Glastetter discharged his firearm, firing six rounds through the door and striking Mr. Fisher. Fisher succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Legal Review and Conclusion
Following the incident, Austin Glastetter immediately contacted 911 and cooperated fully with law enforcement.
After a comprehensive investigation, authorities concluded that Glastetter’s actions were legally justified under Missouri Revised Statutes Section 563.031, which permits the use of deadly force in self-defense when faced with unlawful entry and an imminent threat.
“This was a deeply unfortunate event, but based on the evidence, it was a clear case of lawful self-defense,” said Sheriff Derick Wheetley. “Our hearts go out to the families affected.”
