McDowell County, NC – A devastating collision on the evening of Monday, June 30, 2025, has claimed the life of Christopher Corn, a beloved resident of Nebo, North Carolina, leaving his community and loved ones in deep mourning.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 7:37 p.m. along U.S. Route 221 South, near the boundary separating McDowell and Rutherford Counties. The multi-fatality incident involved two vehicles and stemmed from an attempted passing maneuver that ended in tragedy.
The collision was triggered when a 2025 Honda Pilot, registered to Fasan Dayo, 34, of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, attempted to pass several cars while traveling southbound. In doing so, the vehicle failed to return to its lane in time and collided head-on with a 2024 Toyota GR86, which was heading northbound. The Toyota was driven by Jacob McKinney, also of Nebo.
The impact of the head-on crash was severe, pushing the Toyota off the roadway and resulting in catastrophic damage to both vehicles. Christopher Corn, who was a passenger in the Toyota, tragically sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.
Jacob McKinney, the driver of the Toyota, was seriously injured and required immediate air evacuation. He was airlifted to Mission Hospital, where he remains under critical care. Authorities have not released further updates on his condition as of this writing.
The occupants of the Honda Pilot, Fasan Dayo and his passenger, Katherine Jennings of Marion, were also killed in the crash. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, marking a total of three confirmed fatalities resulting from this tragic incident.
