Columbia, S.C. — A violent early morning shooting at a Midlands gas station in Richland County has claimed the life of 29-year-old DeShawn Carroway, leaving a community in shock and investigators working to uncover the circumstances behind the tragedy.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) confirmed that deputies were dispatched to the CK Mart/El Cheapo gas station located at 2624 Broad River Road around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, following reports of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Carroway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel quickly responded but, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
