Beloved Pastor Father Brian Kenney Dies Unexpectedly at 53, Leaving Two Parishes in Mourning

Posted on July 10, 2025 by Usainsightreport

It is with deep sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of Father Brian Kenney, devoted pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hodgenville and St. Ann Church in Howardstown. Father Kenney died suddenly on the evening of July 9, 2025, at the age of 53, leaving behind a heartbroken community of faith, family, and friends.

Father Kenney was more than a priest; he was a shepherd, a mentor, and a compassionate soul who walked beside his parishioners through the joys and sorrows of life. His love for the Eucharist, his tireless service to others, and his ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds made him a deeply respected and beloved figure in the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Born with a calling to serve God and His people, Father Kenney faithfully lived out his priestly vocation for over two decades. His ministry was marked by humility, gentleness, and unwavering dedication to the spiritual care of his flock. Whether it was in the confessional, at the altar, or during quiet moments of pastoral care, he radiated Christ’s presence with sincerity and compassion.

Father Kenney’s death is a profound loss for both Our Lady of Mercy and St. Ann parishes, where his leadership and love were a guiding force. He was known not only for his reverent celebration of the Mass and deep theological wisdom, but also for his warm humor, his genuine listening ear, and his visible commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive faith community.

In this time of mourning, Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre will join parishioners, clergy, and friends for a special Mass of Remembrance at Our Lady of Mercy Church tonight at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to come together in prayer and solidarity, to grieve as a community, and to celebrate the life of a priest who gave so much of himself for the glory of God and the service of others.

As we honor Father Kenney’s memory, we extend our heartfelt prayers to his family, his fellow clergy, and especially to the faithful of his two beloved parishes. May their hearts find comfort in the hope of the resurrection and in the knowledge that his legacy of love and faith will endure.

“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

In our grief, we hold fast to the promise of eternal life and the assurance that Father Brian Kenney now rests in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. His memory will remain a blessing to all who had the privilege to know him.
