Body Found in St. Joseph River Identified as Elkhart Man

ELKHART, Ind. — The Elkhart Police Department has identified the body recovered from the St. Joseph River on Thursday, July 17, 2025, as 50-year-old Anthony Null, a resident of Elkhart.

The discovery was made around 1:10 p.m. in the 300 block of East Beardsley Avenue, along the riverbank. Elkhart Police responded to the scene, and the Elkhart Fire Department assisted in retrieving the body from the water. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, to lead the ongoing investigation into Null’s death.

Details surrounding the circumstances of Null’s death remain limited at this time. Authorities have not disclosed whether foul play is suspected or how long the body was in the river prior to its discovery. The investigation is in its early stages, with the Homicide Unit actively collecting evidence, seeking potential witnesses, and reviewing any available information.

The cause and manner of Null’s death are pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology reports, which are expected to provide further insight. The Elkhart Police Department has committed to sharing updates as more information becomes available.
