Carrollton Mourns Father Killed in Daytime Shooting as Three Teens Face Murder Charges

Posted on July 19, 2025 by Usainsightreport

A devastating act of violence in broad daylight has left the Carrollton community mourning the loss of 46-year-old resident Tyrone Boykin. The fatal shooting occurred just after noon on Friday, July 18, 2025, in the 100 block of Magnolia Street, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and resulting in murder charges against three young suspects.

The Carrollton Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near 120 Magnolia Street around 12:00 p.m. Responding officers discovered Boykin lying in the front yard of a nearby residence, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical services rushed him to Tanner Medical Center, where, despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The loss has left Boykin’s family, friends, and neighbors grappling with grief.

Witnesses reported a chaotic scene, describing an exchange of gunfire between Boykin and multiple males in the roadway. The incident unfolded in a residential area, with shots ringing out in full view of residents enjoying a summer afternoon. “It was terrifying—shots just echoing through the street,” one neighbor recounted. “This isn’t something you expect in the middle of the day.”

Carrollton Police detectives moved quickly, securing the crime scene and collecting ballistic evidence, witness statements, and surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses. Their investigation zeroed in on a white Dodge Charger seen fleeing the area shortly after the shooting. Tips and video evidence led authorities to Bowdon, where the vehicle was reportedly spotted at a Jack’s fast-food restaurant earlier that day.

By Friday evening, police had identified and arrested three suspects, all charged with one count of murder in connection with Boykin’s death:

– Kimauri Farmer, 18, of Carrollton, a Carrollton High School football player and recent commit to Liberty University.
– Joshawia Davis Jr., 17, of Bowdon, a standout linebacker for Bowdon High School’s three-time state championship team.
– A 15-year-old male juvenile from Bowdon, whose identity is withheld due to his age.

The suspects were taken into custody without incident and are being held at the Carroll County Jail, with the juvenile’s case subject to juvenile court proceedings. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive or the nature of any relationship between the suspects and Boykin, citing the ongoing investigation and the suspects’ ages.

The death of Tyrone Boykin, a father and well-regarded member of the community, has sent shockwaves through Carrollton. Described as kind-hearted and approachable, Boykin’s loss has sparked an outpouring of grief and concern over rising youth violence. “This tragedy hits hard,” said a Carrollton Police spokesperson. “We are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Boykin’s family and ensuring those responsible face the consequences.”

Community leaders and residents are calling for action to address youth crime, emphasizing the need for mentorship, intervention programs, and resources to guide young people away from violence. “We can’t lose another life like this,” a local pastor said at a vigil held for Boykin. “Our kids need us now more than ever.”

The investigation remains active, with police working to uncover the circumstances leading to the shooting. Authorities believe the incident was targeted but are withholding further details to protect the case’s integrity. The public is urged to provide any information about the shooting or the white Dodge Charger seen in the area. Tips can be shared with the Carrollton Police Department at 770-834-4451 or through their mobile app and social media channels.

As Carrollton mourns, the focus remains on honoring Tyrone Boykin’s memory and seeking answers to heal a wounded community.
