OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — A serene spa in Oakland Park was transformed into a crime scene this week following the devastating discovery of a woman shot to death inside her workplace. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) has arrested 69-year-old Chris Luchenburg in connection with the murder of 54-year-old Cuiyun Fu, the owner of Health Spa One, located at 2700 West Oakland Park Boulevard.
On Thursday, July 17, 2025, shortly before 2 p.m., BSO deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a deceased person at Health Spa One, Suite 20. Upon arrival, they found Fu’s body, bearing a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators from BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide Units quickly determined that Fu had been shot the previous day, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and her body remained undiscovered until the following afternoon.
Detectives identified Luchenburg as the suspect, noting that he and Fu had known each other for a few months. According to authorities, Luchenburg entered the spa on Wednesday morning, fatally shot Fu, and then fled the scene. BSO’s Violent Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response Unit located and arrested Luchenburg on Friday morning, July 18, 2025. He was booked into the BSO Main Jail, facing one count of first-degree murder with a firearm. During a court appearance on Saturday, July 19, 2025, a judge denied Luchenburg bond and ordered mental and physical evaluations.
Further investigation revealed that Luchenburg, a Fort Lauderdale resident, is a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for sexual battery of a minor in Coral Springs and a history of domestic violence accusations. Fu was the registered agent of Health Spa One and FeiFei Spa One, both operating out of the same location where the shooting occurred.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and BSO has not released additional details about the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) for anonymous tips.
The tragedy has deeply affected the Oakland Park community, where Fu was remembered as a kind and dedicated professional. Clients and neighbors expressed their shock and grief, describing her as a gentle soul who created a welcoming environment at her spa. “She was always so warm and caring,” said a regular client. “This is a loss that will be felt by so many.”
A nearby pastor, whose group met at the same plaza, noted the unsettling proximity of the crime, unaware of the shooting until after it was reported. Local business owners echoed the sentiment, with one stating, “A place meant for relaxation and healing shouldn’t be the scene of such violence. It’s heartbreaking.”
As the community processes this loss, plans for a memorial to honor Cuiyun Fu are underway, with friends and loved ones seeking to celebrate her life and legacy. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation, committed to uncovering the full details of this tragic event.
