A Canton man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting at Camden Park Apartments on Parkview Drive, according to Canton Police Chief Otha Brown. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and resulted in the death of 47-year-old Troy Waldrep.

Authorities report that 33-year-old James Ross allegedly shot Waldrep once in the face during a verbal altercation that escalated into violence. The confrontation took place in the late evening, and emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. Despite their efforts, Waldrep succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported for medical treatment.

He faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm within city limits. Ross is being held without bond as the investigation continues.

Waldrep’s family has shared a photograph of him and is requesting the community’s thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The motive and specific circumstances leading to the argument have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
