Young Life Cut Short: 26-Year-Old Fatally Shot in Targeted Lexington Homicide

LEXINGTON, N.C. — A tragic shooting in Lexington has left a 26-year-old man dead and a suspect in custody, with authorities describing the incident as an isolated homicide. The Lexington Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in the 200 block of Federal Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Jyisaiah Cuthrell, a 26-year-old Lexington resident, on the front porch of a home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided immediate medical aid until EMS arrived, and Cuthrell was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Health Lexington Medical Center. Despite efforts to save him, Cuthrell succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The Lexington Police Department launched a homicide investigation, determining that the shooting was targeted and does not pose an ongoing threat to the public. Swift investigative work led to the identification and arrest of a suspect later that day. Jarvis Lewis Carroll, a 21-year-old Lexington resident, was apprehended without incident at a residence in the 200 block of Tucson Way in Davidson County, with assistance from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Carroll faces murder charges in connection with Cuthrell’s death.

Details regarding the motive or the relationship between the victim and suspect have not been disclosed. The investigation remains active, and no additional suspects are currently being sought.
