Inmate Mistakenly Released in New Orleans, Louisiana; Manhunt Underway

Posted on July 25, 2025 by Usainsightreport

On July 25, 2025, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) confirmed the mistaken release of 30-year-old inmate Khalil Bryan from the Orleans Justice Center due to a clerical error. The error stemmed from a misidentification between two individuals with similar last names, leading to Bryan’s release despite facing multiple charges.

Bryan is charged with illegal possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting an officer. Additionally, he has an active warrant from Criminal District Court Section H for aggravated assault with a firearm, domestic abuse child endangerment, and home invasion. He was also being held on a warrant from Jefferson Parish.

Sheriff Susan Hutson issued a statement acknowledging the error, saying, “The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office takes full responsibility for the clerical error that led to the mistaken release of Khalil Bryan, and we offer our sincere apology to the public, our law enforcement partners, and the court.” An internal investigation has been launched to address the incident, and all victims related to Bryan’s cases have been notified.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), under Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, is actively involved in the manhunt to reapprehend Bryan. Authorities are working diligently to locate him, and law enforcement agencies are collaborating to ensure his swift return to custody. The public is urged to report any information regarding Bryan’s whereabouts to the NOPD or local authorities.
