RIDGECREST, CA – A Ridgecrest Police Department officer was arrested on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, following a domestic violence investigation that has stirred significant concern within the local community. Officer Laura Kenney, 35, was taken into custody after being identified as the suspect in a domestic violence incident involving allegations of inflicting injury on a spouse and child abuse.

The incident came to light at approximately 10:00 a.m. on July 29, when a community member reported a domestic violence situation within Ridgecrest city limits, specifically naming a Ridgecrest Police Department officer as the alleged perpetrator. Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations, detectives from the department’s Investigations Unit were promptly assigned to ensure an impartial and thorough investigation.

Upon arriving at the scene, investigators observed a minor injury on the victim’s face, heightening concerns about the incident. Further investigation revealed that the victim was holding an infant during the alleged assault, which led to additional charges of child abuse. Detectives conducted interviews with multiple witnesses, whose consistent accounts helped establish probable cause for an arrest.

At approximately 2:21 p.m., Officer Laura Kenney was arrested on charges of infliction of injury on a spouse and child abuse. She was transported to the Ridgecrest Police Department for processing and was later released on bail as the legal process continues.

The Ridgecrest Police Department issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to transparency and accountability. “The men and women of the Ridgecrest Police Department are members of this community and are held to the same laws and standards as those we serve,” the statement read. “We take allegations of domestic violence with the utmost seriousness, and this matter is being investigated thoroughly and impartially. Officer Kenney is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.”

The department acknowledged the impact of the incident, stating, “This is a serious and unfortunate situation for everyone involved. We know incidents like this can affect the entire department and the community we serve.” They have requested the community’s understanding as both criminal and administrative investigations proceed.

No additional details have been released regarding the victim’s identity, the specific circumstances of the incident, or whether Officer Kenney has been placed on administrative leave. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact the Ridgecrest Police Department.

This case has sparked discussions about officer accountability and the importance of maintaining public trust in law enforcement. As the investigation continues, further updates are expected to emerge through the Kern County justice system.
