Brunswick County, VA – On the evening of August 2, 2025, at approximately 11:04 PM, deputies from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 12000 block of Cedar Grove Road in the Lawrenceville area.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered a male victim lying outside a residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the immediate efforts of first responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Ty’el Daveon Jones, a 25-year-old resident of Lawrenceville.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the incident began as a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical altercation. The confrontation rapidly intensified, resulting in the use of multiple firearms by individuals involved. Authorities have relied on witness statements and physical evidence collected at the scene to reconstruct the events leading to the fatal shooting.

Following a swift investigation, law enforcement identified 54-year-old Tristan Gautier Bell, also of Lawrenceville, as a key individual involved in the incident. In the early morning hours of August 3, deputies executed a search warrant at Bell’s residence, where he was apprehended without incident.

Tristan Gautier Bell has been charged with murder and is currently being held without bond at the Meherrin River Regional Jail. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation remains active, with additional charges anticipated as further evidence is analyzed and witness interviews are conducted.

Captain Joey Lopresti of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office addressed the tragedy, stating, “This incident is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly violence can erupt and lives can be lost. We are working diligently to ensure that justice is served and that every person involved is held accountable. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Ty’el Daveon Jones and everyone impacted by this senseless act.”

The Sheriff’s Office is appealing to the public for any additional information related to the incident. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact investigators at (434) 848-3133. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the department’s crime tip line or official website.

As the investigation progresses, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office urges community members to prioritize safety, effective communication, and peaceful conflict resolution to prevent future tragedies.
