Miami Man Dies After Dirt Bike Crash Involving Minors in Key Biscayne

Posted on August 18, 2025 by Usainsightreport

The vibrant community of Key Biscayne was plunged into grief on the evening of August 15, 2025, when a devastating collision on the Rickenbacker Causeway claimed the life of 54-year-old Miami resident Fabian Moses. The accident, occurring around 8:20 p.m. on the William Powell Bridge, has left the community reeling, reigniting urgent conversations about road safety and the regulation of electric vehicles in this bustling coastal enclave.

Fabian Moses, a respected figure in Coral Gables and president of Fmoses, Inc., was cycling along the eastbound lanes of the causeway, a scenic stretch connecting Key Biscayne to the mainland, when tragedy struck. According to City of Miami Police, Moses was hit by a 14-year-old boy operating an electric dirt bike. The impact was catastrophic. Moses, critically injured, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The young rider sustained facial injuries and was also hospitalized, while a second minor, believed to be a passenger on the dirt bike, remained at the scene. Authorities have yet to confirm the presence of additional riders, but the incident has left a profound mark on all involved.

The crash sent shockwaves through the evening, with emergency responders scrambling to the scene as the causeway descended into chaos. Witnesses reported to Islander News that traffic ground to a halt, with vehicles backed up for hours as police diverted cars into westbound lanes. The entrance to Key Biscayne was sealed off, stranding drivers and underscoring the severity of the incident. Emergency dispatch audio captured the urgency of the moment, with responders noting “three trauma alerts” as they worked to save lives under the weight of the unfolding tragedy.

As the community mourns, the accident has cast a spotlight on the dangers of motorized bikes on shared roadways. The juvenile operator’s age has fueled discussions about safety regulations, particularly as Key Biscayne’s Village Council prepares to revisit a contentious issue: the potential reintroduction of e-bikes and electric scooters. For the past 18 months, these vehicles have been banned in the Village following the heartbreaking death of Megan Andrews, a cyclist killed by an e-bike in a similar accident. The timing of this latest tragedy, just days before a council meeting to discuss a new state law allowing municipalities to set age limits for e-bike riders, feels like a cruel twist of fate.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the State Attorney’s Office reviewing the case to determine whether charges will be filed against the young rider. Miami Police have emphasized that the inquiry is far from over, and new details may emerge as they piece together the events leading to the collision. Early reports suggest that factors such as speed, distraction, or failure to yield may have played a role, but authorities are withholding judgment until the full picture comes into focus.

For now, Key Biscayne is left to grapple with grief and questions. Fabian Moses, a man whose life touched many, is gone, and a young rider faces the weight of a life-altering moment. The community, no stranger to loss, is once again forced to confront the delicate balance between mobility and safety. As the causeway reopens and life resumes its rhythm, the memory of that fateful Friday night lingers, a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for vigilance on the roads we all share.
