Meadville, Pennsylvania
1953 – May 3, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Victor Pilewski, a beloved general surgeon, community leader, and mentor, who passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He was 72 years old.

Dr. Pilewski was more than a physician—he was a pillar of compassion, service, and wisdom in Meadville, where he spent the majority of his life and career. For over four decades, he served countless patients with unwavering dedication and remarkable surgical skill. His calm demeanor, gentle bedside manner, and exceptional medical knowledge brought comfort and hope to individuals and families in some of their most vulnerable moments.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Pilewski returned to Pennsylvania after his residency, drawn to the close-knit community of Meadville. There, he quickly became a trusted figure at Meadville Medical Center and beyond. Colleagues knew him as a consummate professional—measured in judgment, steady in a crisis, and deeply empathetic. Patients often described him as someone who not only treated their illness but also cared for their spirit.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Pilewski was a passionate advocate for education and mentorship. He believed strongly in nurturing the next generation of physicians, and for many young doctors, his guidance was foundational. He taught by example—through humility, attentiveness, and a tireless commitment to learning. Whether leading clinical rounds or offering a quiet word of encouragement, he shaped the lives and careers of countless healthcare professionals who will carry his lessons forward.

Dr. Pilewski also gave generously of his time to the broader community. He participated in local health initiatives, volunteered at free clinics, and supported rural health programs aimed at increasing access to quality care. His commitment to service was rooted in a deep belief in the dignity of every person, regardless of background or circumstance.

Victor was also a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Elaine Pilewski, their three children—Michael, Anna, and Thomas—and five grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. His family was the heart of his world, and he took great pride in their accomplishments, always emphasizing the importance of kindness, integrity, and perseverance. In quieter moments, he loved fishing on Woodcock Creek Lake, working in his garden, and enjoying classical music in the company of friends and family.

The Pilewski family extends heartfelt gratitude to the community for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your messages, shared memories, and kind gestures have provided comfort and strength.

Dr. Victor Pilewski’s legacy will endure—not just in the lives he saved, but in the compassion he spread, the students he mentored, and the community he helped shape. His life was a testament to the profound difference one dedicated person can make in the world.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville on Saturday, May 10, at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception in the church hall. All who knew and loved Dr. Pilewski are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Meadville Medical Foundation’s Education Fund or to a local charity of your choice in Victor’s memory.
