22-Year-Old Braydon Mitchell Ellertson Fatally Shot at Olsen Park in Amarillo; Police Investigation Ongoing

AMARILLO, TX — A deadly shooting in the early hours of Wednesday, June 25, 2025, has left the Amarillo community in shock after 22-year-old Braydon Mitchell Ellertson was found fatally wounded at Olsen Park. The Amarillo Police Department has launched a full investigation into the incident, which unfolded just after midnight.

Officers responded to the park shortly after 12:08 a.m., following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Ellertson suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel from APD, the Amarillo Fire Department, and AMR immediately began life-saving measures. Tragically, despite their efforts, Braydon Ellertson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial Reports Suggest Confrontation Escalated to Violence

According to a statement from Amarillo Police, the situation began when a caller reported that Ellertson had approached them at the park, which led to a physical altercation. During the struggle, the caller fired a single round, striking Ellertson. The caller remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the shooter’s identity has not been released.

Homicide Unit Leading the Investigation

The case is being handled by the APD Homicide Unit, which is actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators are reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and considering whether self-defense may have played a role in the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have been in or around Olsen Park around the time of the shooting to come forward with information.
