ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Man Recovering After Being Shot Overnight in Northwest Atlanta

A man is recovering from a gunshot wound after a shooting that occurred late Monday night in northwest Atlanta, authorities confirmed.

According to officials with the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at 1380 Donnelly Avenue NW shortly after 10:40 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered a 24-year-old man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. Emergency medical personnel were quickly called to the location and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Authorities say the injuries are non-life-threatening, and the man is expected to recover.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, and no suspects have been taken into custody as of Tuesday morning. Detectives were seen canvassing the area late into the night, speaking with witnesses and collecting evidence, including surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences.

Neighbors in the typically quiet Donnelly Avenue corridor expressed concern over the violence, which they say has become more frequent in recent months. “It’s unsettling,” said one resident who asked not to be named. “We used to feel safe walking around here at night. Now, you never know what might happen.”

The shooting adds to a string of recent violent incidents in the city, underscoring ongoing concerns about public safety and gun violence in the Atlanta metropolitan area. City leaders have been under increasing pressure to address rising crime rates, particularly in residential neighborhoods that were once considered relatively low-risk.

In response, Atlanta Police have increased patrols in known hotspots and are working closely with community organizations to promote conflict resolution and youth outreach programs. “We take every incident of gun violence seriously,” said a spokesperson for APD. “Our goal is to identify those responsible and ensure they are held accountable, while also working to prevent future acts through proactive community engagement.”

Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers. Tips can be made anonymously, and in some cases, may qualify for a reward.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available. The victim’s recovery is being closely monitored, and authorities are hopeful that forthcoming leads will help bring resolution to the case.
