“Attorney Arrives as Parents Arrested in Baby Emmanuel’s Murder; Search for Infant Still Active

Posted on August 22, 2025 by Usainsightreport

In the desert community of Cabazon, California, a chilling drama has gripped the region, leaving hearts heavy and questions unanswered. On the morning of August 22, 2025, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department descended upon the home of Jake and Rebecca Haro, their flashing lights cutting through the dawn. Crime scene tape now encircles the property, a stark symbol of a tragedy that has shaken the community to its core. The parents of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, reported missing just over a week ago, were arrested on suspicion of murder, charged under California Penal Code 187. Yet, the infant remains missing, and the desperate search for answers continues.

The saga began on August 14, 2025, when Rebecca Haro, 31, recounted a harrowing tale to authorities. She claimed she was in the parking lot of a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa, about 70 miles east of Los Angeles, changing her son’s diaper when an unknown assailant approached. “I heard someone say ‘Hola,’ and then I saw white,” she told ABC7, her voice trembling as she described being knocked unconscious. When she awoke, her baby boy, Emmanuel, was gone. The 7-month-old, last seen in a black Nike onesie, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a distinctive cross-eyed gaze, had vanished without a trace.

But as investigators dug deeper, cracks began to appear in Rebecca’s story. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department noted “inconsistencies” in her account, raising suspicions of foul play. During interviews, Rebecca was confronted with these discrepancies and chose to halt cooperation, refusing to continue without legal counsel. Her husband, Jake Haro, 32, also retained an attorney, Vincent Hughes, who arrived at the family’s home on Ramona Street in Cabazon as authorities conducted their search, a scene now marked by the grim presence of crime scene tape.

The investigation took a darker turn as details of the couple’s past emerged. Court records reveal Jake Haro’s troubling history, including a June 2023 felony conviction for willful child cruelty stemming from a 2018 arrest in Hemet. Sentenced to 180 days in jail and 48 months of probation, Jake was also charged in July 2024 with possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. His attorney, Vincent Hughes, who represented him in the earlier case, defended his client, stating, “Jake has a criminal past, but one crime doesn’t mean he’s responsible for this. The facts of that case are entirely different.” Hughes also claimed the couple was cooperating fully, having surrendered phones, laptops, iPads, and even Xbox consoles to investigators, along with access to their passwords.

As the search for Emmanuel intensified, authorities executed multiple search warrants at the Haro residence, deploying K9 units and scouring surveillance footage from areas of interest in Yucaipa and Cabazon. The couple’s 2-year-old child was removed from their custody by Riverside County Child Protective Services, and cadaver dogs were brought to the property, fueling speculation about the infant’s fate. A reported sighting of Emmanuel in Bakersfield, mentioned by Hughes, remains unconfirmed, with the Sheriff’s Department stating investigators are aware but have no further comment.

The case has drawn intense scrutiny, amplified by the family’s tangled history. Rebecca Haro’s brother, James Beushausen, was convicted in 2017 of murdering his girlfriend in Palm Springs, a case that initially appeared as a staged suicide until inconsistencies unraveled the truth. Their mother, Mary Beushausen, has publicly defended both her children, insisting to KTLA that Jake and Rebecca “love their son and wouldn’t do anything to hurt him.” Yet, the community’s faith has wavered, with reports of death threats directed at the couple, prompting them to retreat from public view.

Adding to the complexity, a candlelight vigil held on August 17 for Emmanuel underscored the community’s anguish, while a nearby house fire on August 19, initially thought to be connected, was later deemed unrelated by CAL FIRE. The Uvalde Foundation for Kids, which briefly offered a $5,000 reward for information on Emmanuel, withdrew its support, citing “too many missing pieces” in the case, though they challenged the parents to rejoin the search efforts to prove their commitment.

As the investigation presses on, the question of Emmanuel’s whereabouts looms large. Was he truly abducted, as his mother claimed, or does a darker truth lie beneath the surface? The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department remains steadfast, vowing to continue their search for the missing infant. They urge anyone with information to contact the Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904 or submit anonymous tips through We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME.

In Cabazon, the Haro home stands silent, wrapped in yellow tape, a stark reminder of a baby lost and a mystery far from solved. The community holds its breath, hoping for a miracle, while the shadow of suspicion grows ever darker.
