BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Man with Lengthy Criminal Record Arrested for Armed Robbery and Kidnapping

Posted on May 21, 2025 by Usainsightreport

A Baton Rouge man with a lengthy and troubling criminal history is back behind bars after being arrested for a violent armed robbery that took place last month.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), Anthony Maggit, a repeat offender with numerous previous arrests, was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 20, and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces several serious charges, including Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Access Device Fraud.

The Incident

The investigation began following an incident that occurred on April 13 near the intersection of S. Acadian Thruway and I-10. A woman, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly stopped at that location in her vehicle when she was approached by an armed man. Police allege that the suspect, later identified as Anthony Maggit, was brandishing a handgun when he demanded that the woman exit her vehicle.

According to BRPD, Maggit not only forced the woman out of her car but also coerced her into his own vehicle. Once inside, he allegedly took her car keys, cash, cell phone, and purse, effectively robbing her at gunpoint. After committing the robbery, Maggit reportedly released the woman and fled the scene.

The Investigation and Arrest

Through investigative efforts, detectives identified Maggit as a potential suspect and presented his photograph in a lineup. The victim positively identified him as the perpetrator.

Maggit’s arrest adds another chapter to a long history of criminal behavior. His criminal record includes previous arrests for:

  • Simple Burglary

  • Simple Battery

  • Possession of Marijuana

  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle

  • Aggravated Battery

  • Purse Snatching

  • Simple Robbery

  • Illegal Possession of Stolen Things

  • Resisting an Officer

  • Simple Battery of the Infirm

The repeated nature of his offenses raises questions about how a person with such an extensive rap sheet has remained free and able to commit further crimes, this time escalating to armed robbery and kidnapping.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Concerns

The arrest has sparked concern and outrage among Baton Rouge residents, many of whom are demanding stricter enforcement and tougher consequences for repeat offenders. “It’s terrifying to think someone like that was still on the streets,” one local resident commented. “This could’ve ended a lot worse.”

City officials and law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. They also stress the importance of community involvement in crime prevention efforts.

Legal Proceedings Ahead

Anthony Maggit will remain in custody as he awaits formal charges and court proceedings. Given the seriousness of the offenses — particularly armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping — he could be facing significant prison time if convicted.

The Baton Rouge Police Department has not released further details regarding Maggit’s possible involvement in other ongoing investigations, though authorities have confirmed that additional charges could be forthcoming based on the outcome of forensic analyses and interviews.

Anyone with further information about this case or similar incidents is encouraged to contact the BRPD or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
