Breaking: Arrest Made in Deadly Juneteenth Shooting in Downtown Tulsa

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Police have announced a major development in the tragic shooting that took place late Saturday night during Juneteenth celebrations in the city’s historic Greenwood District. Authorities have arrested 19-year-old Timetrious Shamar Moore in connection with the violence, which claimed the life of Isaiah Knight and injured several others. Moore has been booked on charges of Second-Degree Murder, and police say more arrests are expected in the coming days as the investigation continues.

The shooting occurred shortly before midnight on June 21 near Greenwood Avenue and Archer Street, during a festival meant to celebrate freedom, culture, and community. The celebration was being held in the Black Wall Street District, a place rooted in historical significance and resilience.

A Night Meant for Celebration Turns Tragic

What began as a joyful night honoring Juneteenth turned into chaos when gunfire erupted in the crowd. First responders arrived quickly and found several people injured. Among them was Isaiah Knight, who was critically wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Isaiah, remembered as a devoted father and a young man full of potential, has become the face of this tragedy. Friends and family have described him as kindhearted, hardworking, and a positive force in his community.

“Isaiah had a whole future ahead of him,” said a close friend. “He was building something for his child, for his family. To lose him like this, at a celebration of freedom, is devastating.”

Suspect in Custody – Investigation Ongoing

Thanks to diligent work by Tulsa Police detectives, along with tips from the public and surveillance footage, officers were able to identify and arrest Timetrious Shamar Moore. He is now in custody, facing Second-Degree Murder charges. Police have stated that the shooting involved multiple individuals, and they expect to make additional arrests in the coming days.

Investigators have praised the collaboration and quick response from the community, which helped move the case forward. The Tulsa Police Department remains committed to ensuring everyone involved is held accountable.

“We’re doing everything in our power to bring justice to Isaiah’s family and to those who were harmed,” a police spokesperson said. “This is still an active investigation, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Grief and Outrage in the Greenwood District

The shooting has left a deep wound in the Greenwood District, a neighborhood that already bears the scars of historical violence. For many, the fact that the shooting occurred during Juneteenth—a holiday marking the end of slavery—is a painful reminder that true justice and safety remain out of reach for far too many.

“This was supposed to be a time to celebrate Black freedom, culture, and progress,” said one community organizer. “Instead, we’re grieving another young Black man taken by violence.”

Community leaders have called for greater focus on public safety, youth intervention programs, and gun violence prevention, especially during community events.

Honoring Isaiah Knight’s Memory

In the wake of his death, the community has come together to honor Isaiah Knight. A GoFundMe has been launched to support his family and assist with funeral expenses. A vigil held Sunday evening drew dozens of people, lighting candles and sharing stories about Isaiah’s life and impact.

Plans are underway for a peace rally at the site of the shooting later this week, with community leaders vowing to reclaim the space in his name.

Looking Ahead

Police are expected to release further updates as the investigation continues. Formal charges against Moore are anticipated soon, and his first court appearance is expected later this week.

The Tulsa Police Department continues to ask anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Their commitment, alongside community involvement, remains vital in the pursuit of justice.

“Isaiah Knight deserved to live, to grow old, to raise his child. We will not forget him. We will speak his name, and we will demand peace in his memory.”
