BRANDON, Miss. — A multi-agency manhunt reached a tense conclusion Thursday night as Matthew Brian Kidd, the 35-year-old suspect wanted in connection with two brutal homicides, was taken into custody without incident at a local Rodeway Inn.
The arrest, a product of seamless cooperation between the Brandon Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, ended a day of fear and uncertainty for the community. Kidd, who authorities had urgently warned was armed and extremely dangerous, was located and apprehended in a swift operation, bringing a sense of relief to a shaken county.
Kidd now faces two charges of murder. The first is in the death of Christian Storey, 33, who was discovered shot to death inside a home on Gayden Street in Brandon on Thursday evening in what Police Chief Joseph French described as “a tragic and violent act.”
The second murder charge is for the death of William Earl Morris in Rankin County. While Kidd had previously been named a person of interest in Morris’s case, investigators revealed that it was not until Thursday that they secured the concrete evidence needed to obtain an official arrest warrant through the Rankin County Court, solidifying the case against him.
The precise motives behind the two killings remain a mystery, shrouded in an ongoing and intensive investigation. Local, state, and federal authorities are continuing to piece together the events that led to the violence, with officials promising to release further updates as the complex case unfolds.
