California Father Faces Multiple Charges After Allegedly Firing at Teens Accused of Bullying His Daughter
San Mateo, CA – May 29, 2025 — A San Mateo father, 54-year-old Craig Steven Miceli, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly firing a handgun at a vehicle occupied by three teenagers he claims had been bullying his daughter. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 25, following a series of escalating pranks targeting Miceli’s home.
According to the San Mateo Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired into an occupied vehicle on Annapolis Drive. The teenagers, students at Hillsdale High School, were reportedly involved in previous incidents at Miceli’s residence, including pouring canola oil on the porch steps and egging the house. Miceli confronted the teens as they drove by his home and allegedly fired two rounds from a handgun, aiming at the vehicle’s tires. One bullet struck the front passenger quarter panel, narrowly missing the occupants.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe stated that Miceli admitted to firing the shots out of frustration over the ongoing harassment of his daughter. He told investigators he was attempting to disable the vehicle by shooting at the tires but acknowledged that one bullet entered the passenger side where the teens were seated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, Miceli reportedly disposed of the handgun by throwing it into Water Dog Lake in Belmont. A subsequent search of his home led to the discovery of an illegal .50 Browning machine gun rifle and various types of ammunition. Miceli now faces several charges, including three counts of assault with a firearm, shooting at an occupied vehicle, possession of an assault weapon, and unlawful assault weapon activity. His bail has been set at $25,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9.
This incident highlights the complexities surrounding bullying and the potential for situations to escalate when not addressed through appropriate channels. While the emotional toll of bullying on families is significant, authorities emphasize the importance of seeking legal and constructive solutions rather than resorting to violence.
As the case proceeds, the community is reminded of the resources available to address bullying and the importance of fostering a safe and supportive environment for all students.
