Carmel, Indiana — Katherine Curtis, a nurse practitioner and wellness business owner, was arrested Thursday morning on multiple felony charges related to controlled substances. The arrest follows an extensive multi-agency investigation that uncovered alleged unlawful prescription practices and the distribution of controlled substances beyond legal limits. Authorities emphasize that the investigation was thorough and involved multiple law enforcement agencies.

Curtis, 34, was taken into custody and booked into the Hamilton County Jail. She faces preliminary charges that include unlawful dispensation of a controlled substance, dealing in a controlled substance by a practitioner, possession of a narcotic drug, identity deception, and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. Officials noted that these charges reflect the seriousness of the alleged violations.

State business records indicate that Curtis is the owner or co-owner of Reclaim Wellness and was previously associated with Mind & Body Healthcare, LLC, both located in Carmel, Indiana. These businesses have been cited in the investigation as part of a larger inquiry into her professional practices and prescription management.

Authorities report that the case began earlier this year after several pharmacies in Central Indiana flagged suspicious prescription activity linked to Curtis. Pharmacists reported instances of overprescribing, issuing fraudulent prescriptions, and writing scripts under other practitioners’ names. These reports prompted law enforcement to initiate a deeper investigation.

The investigation spanned eight months and involved the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Task Force Officers, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Tactical Diversion Section, and support from the Carmel Police Department. Officials said the collaborative effort was necessary to fully understand the scope of the alleged unlawful activity and ensure all evidence was properly collected.

Investigators obtained records, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed pharmacy data to identify patterns of alleged prescription misuse. The authorities described the alleged activity as involving both legitimate patients and instances of prescriptions being written under fraudulent pretenses, which raised serious public safety concerns.

The arrest of Curtis underscores the vigilance of law enforcement in monitoring healthcare professionals and their prescribing practices. Authorities emphasized that the investigation was designed to protect the community, ensure accountability, and prevent potential harm caused by improper access to controlled substances.

Community members expressed surprise at the news, noting that Curtis had previously been regarded as a professional in the wellness industry. While the allegations are serious, officials reminded the public that charges are preliminary, and Curtis is entitled to a legal process to determine responsibility.

The Hamilton County legal system will oversee Curtis’s case as she awaits further court proceedings. Prosecutors are expected to review evidence collected during the investigation, which may include patient records, pharmacy data, and testimonies from involved parties. The case is anticipated to move through multiple stages before any final resolution.

Authorities continue to encourage the public and other medical professionals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious prescription activity. The Carmel Police Department and the DEA emphasized their commitment to ensuring that controlled substances are managed safely and legally, highlighting the importance of cooperation between healthcare providers, pharmacies, and law enforcement.
