CHICAGO, IL — A multiyear manhunt remains underway for a fugitive suspect accused of a violent shooting in Naperville, as law enforcement agencies across state lines intensify their search for a man who allegedly cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and vanished in 2021. The suspect, now 31 years old, has since been placed on the FBI Chicago Division’s “Most Wanted List,” with officials warning that he is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Authorities say the suspect is wanted in connection with an attempted murder that occurred in a crowded area of downtown Naperville. The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, sent shockwaves through the normally quiet suburb known for its safety and family-friendly environment. Witnesses recalled scenes of chaos as shots rang out, forcing bystanders to run for cover as police rushed to the scene.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly opened fire on an acquaintance following a heated altercation outside a restaurant. Surveillance footage captured moments of the confrontation, showing a suspect fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. The victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but ultimately survived after undergoing emergency surgery.

Following the incident, the suspect was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon. As part of his pretrial conditions, he was ordered to wear an electronic ankle monitor. However, in early 2021, authorities say he cut off the device and disappeared, sparking an extensive search that has now spanned more than four years.

Federal agents believe the fugitive may have fled Illinois shortly after his disappearance and could be receiving assistance to avoid capture. The FBI has circulated his image nationwide, urging the public to report any information about his whereabouts. Agents say he has ties to several Midwestern states and may have altered his appearance to evade detection.

Law enforcement officials have expressed frustration at the suspect’s ability to remain hidden for so long. Despite hundreds of tips and reported sightings, none have led to his arrest. “He is a dangerous individual who has already shown a willingness to commit violent acts in public,” an FBI spokesperson said. “We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact us immediately.”

Residents of Naperville and nearby communities have expressed lingering unease over the case, fearing that a violent offender remains at large. Many recall the panic that gripped the city following the shooting, describing it as one of the most unsettling incidents in recent memory. Community leaders have since called for improved monitoring procedures to prevent similar escapes in the future.

Authorities have offered a substantial reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture. The FBI’s Chicago Division continues to coordinate efforts with state and local law enforcement agencies, using advanced tracking technology and intelligence-sharing networks to narrow down possible hiding locations.

The manhunt, now entering its fifth year, serves as a reminder of how difficult it can be to track fugitives across jurisdictions. Officials emphasize that the suspect should not be approached under any circumstances and that anyone who sees him should immediately contact law enforcement.

As the search continues, the community of Naperville holds on to hope that justice will finally be served. For the victim and their family, closure remains elusive — but authorities say they will not rest until the fugitive is found and brought before a court to face the charges against him.
