Chicago, Illinois – A tragic early-morning accident in West Englewood claimed the life of a woman after she was struck by a vehicle on South Ashland Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 2:13 a.m. Sunday in the 6600 block, leaving authorities searching for the suspect responsible for the deadly crash.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was hit by a dark gray, four-door Nissan Maxima sedan traveling northbound. Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene but were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.

Police reported that the suspect’s vehicle suffered substantial damage in the crash. The front grille and hood were significantly impacted, the windshield shattered, and the roof was dented, suggesting the force of the collision was severe. Authorities believe the vehicle may still be in the vicinity or could have fled the area shortly after the incident.

Chicago police have launched a search for the driver responsible for the fatal accident. Officers are canvassing the neighborhood, reviewing nearby surveillance footage, and seeking any information from residents that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect. Law enforcement emphasized that anyone with knowledge about the vehicle or driver should come forward.

Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud crash in the early hours, followed by commotion and sirens. While no additional injuries were reported, the incident has left the West Englewood community shaken and concerned about pedestrian safety in the area.

Authorities encourage residents to check any surveillance cameras, dashcams, or phone footage that may have captured the vehicle prior to or after the crash. Troopers are actively compiling leads to identify and locate the driver of the dark gray Nissan Maxima, emphasizing that community tips could prove vital to the investigation.

The Chicago Police Department has set up a tip line for anyone with information about the incident. Individuals can call 312-745-4521 or submit an anonymous report via CPDTip.com. Officials stress that even small details, such as the time, direction of travel, or partial vehicle descriptions, could assist in locating the suspect.

This fatal collision highlights ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety in Chicago neighborhoods. Police officials and community leaders urge both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant, especially during late-night and early-morning hours, when visibility is low and risks are heightened.

Residents and neighbors have expressed shock and grief over the incident. Community members are calling for increased lighting, traffic monitoring, and enforcement of speed limits on South Ashland Avenue to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As the investigation continues, Chicago police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the woman’s death. The department has assured the public that the case is a priority and that all available resources will be used to bring justice to the victim and her family.
