CLERMONT, Fla. — A student at East Ridge High School remains in critical condition after collapsing from cardiac arrest during a volleyball game earlier this week. The sudden medical emergency has left classmates, teachers, and the entire Clermont community rallying in support and prayer for the young athlete’s recovery.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening inside the East Ridge High School gymnasium during a home volleyball match. Witnesses say the student, identified as Elisha Redmann, suddenly collapsed on the court mid-game, prompting an immediate response from coaches, teammates, and medical personnel on site.

School staff quickly administered CPR as emergency services were called to the scene. Paramedics arrived within minutes and continued life-saving measures before transporting the student to a nearby hospital. Officials later confirmed that Redmann had suffered cardiac arrest.

According to Lake County Schools officials, the student was stabilized en route to the hospital and remains under intensive care. Medical professionals have not released further details regarding her current condition, but reports indicate she continues to fight for her life.

East Ridge High School released a statement expressing its concern and support for the student and her family. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Elisha, her loved ones, and everyone affected by this incident,” the statement read. The school also thanked first responders, staff, and students for their quick and compassionate actions.

In the days following the collapse, an outpouring of support has flooded social media. Students, parents, and community members have organized prayer vigils, shared heartfelt messages online, and created fundraising pages to assist with medical expenses. Many described Redmann as a bright, dedicated student-athlete known for her determination and kind spirit.

The Lake County community has also joined together to raise awareness about cardiac health among young athletes. Local organizations are encouraging schools to ensure defibrillators are accessible at all sporting events and to provide staff with emergency response training to better handle medical crises.

Medical experts emphasize that cardiac arrest in young people, though rare, can occur suddenly and without warning. They note that early CPR and rapid defibrillation dramatically increase survival rates, underscoring the importance of immediate response during such emergencies.

Authorities confirmed that no foul play or external causes were involved in the student’s collapse. The incident is being treated strictly as a medical emergency, and school officials continue to provide counseling and emotional support services for students and staff affected by the traumatic event.

As Elisha Redmann remains hospitalized, the community continues to hold out hope for her recovery. East Ridge High School plans to host a candlelight vigil later this week to honor her fight and show solidarity with her family. For now, the focus remains on unity, faith, and the collective strength of a community determined to stand together through tragedy.
