Coalinga, CA — Authorities with the Coalinga Police Department have announced the arrest of two individuals in connection to a shooting incident that occurred on the evening of October 17, 2025. The arrests come after an intensive investigation that began when officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire on the 200 block of East Houston Street.
According to a statement from CPD, officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after the first reports of shots fired were received. Upon arrival, officers secured the area and began collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses. It was determined that at least three individuals had approached a residence on foot before gunfire erupted. Police believe at least two of the suspects discharged multiple rounds toward the residence.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though the situation posed a serious risk to the occupants of the home and nearby residents. Investigators quickly began piecing together information, utilizing surveillance footage, community tips, and other forensic evidence to identify those involved.
After days of investigation, authorities confirmed that a 17-year-old juvenile and 19-year-old Jonathan Paredes were taken into custody over the weekend in connection with the incident. Both individuals were booked on multiple felony charges, including Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
In addition to the primary charges, both suspects face Gang Enhancements, indicating law enforcement believes the act was gang-related or committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang. These enhancements carry significant legal implications and may increase the severity of potential sentencing if convictions are secured.
Coalinga Police officials emphasized their commitment to addressing gang-related violence in the community. “We take incidents like these extremely seriously,” said a department spokesperson. “The safety of our residents is our highest priority, and we will continue to pursue those who choose to endanger lives through senseless violence.”
The identity of the juvenile suspect is being withheld due to their age, in accordance with state law. Authorities have not confirmed whether additional suspects remain at large but noted that the investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects is urged to contact the Coalinga Police Department.
The arrests have brought a degree of relief to local residents, though many continue to express concern over rising gang-related activity in the region. Community leaders are calling for increased collaboration between law enforcement and neighborhood organizations to create long-term solutions to curb violence and provide positive alternatives for youth.
As the investigation continues, the Coalinga Police Department says it will release additional information as it becomes available.
